Canada study permits are decided on the documents you upload to IRCC, so completeness is everything. Gather these before you start your online application.
Acceptance and identity
- Letter of acceptance from a Designated Learning Institution (DLI)
- Valid passportCovering your intended period of study.
- Provincial Attestation Letter (PAL)Required for most post-secondary applicants.
- Passport-style digital photo
Financial proof
- Proof of funds for tuition and living costsSuch as a GIC, bank statements or a loan letter.
- Tuition payment receiptIf you've already paid the first year.
Supporting documents
- Statement of purpose / study plan
- Academic transcripts and certificates
- BiometricsBooked after you submit, valid for 10 years.
- Medical examIf required for your country or course.

- A clear study plan explaining your course choice strengthens a borderline application.
- Use a GIC where possible — it's a widely accepted proof-of-funds format.
